Break Through in Grey Room

William S. Burroughs
Mute

Hear cool sound recordings and early tape experiments from WSB and Bryon Gysin from this seminal period of their careers. It's a perfect backdrop for reading Soft Machine, The Ticket That Exploded or maybe even the Word Virus anthology.

See comments for details.

i love this album... Burroughs had the best voice ever... pity that very few people ever used it effectively in music...

Kurt Cobain? Well...
Disposible Heroes? Bits are okay...

There must be others...

didnt Material (the Laswell thingy) make an entire album based around Burroughs samples? or was it just a single song..cant remember...too many fatties ago :)

RE: Material, Burroughs, Fatties, Etc.
Material's Seven Souls album is almost entirely Burroughs samples. I highly recommend it, as well as the Road to the Western land remixes.
My favorite Material album is Hallicination Engine, which has one Burroughs spoken word/music track entitled 'Words of Advice'.

Another great Burroughs music project was the Hal Wilner produced 'Dead City Radio'. Burroughs reads lots of his better known bits-as well as new stuff- over a very cool musical bed.
I think all of the above are available if you look around. I found Dead City in a cut-out bin.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

"Hallucination Engine" from Material is very accessible AND moving - and Burroughs voice is awesome on that one. I never managed to get my hands on the Sub Rosa release you speak about - but thanks for reviewing it!

The Ubuweb (www.ubu.com) has many Burroughs tracks as legal downloads. Check them out...
